Welcome to Ripon Racecourse.
The invitation to the Arthritis Care North England volunteer award event in their Diamond Jubilee year.
The marquee pass and the pass to Tattersall's.
Arthritis Care North England are celebrating their volunteers and their 60 year diamond Anniversary.
There are several awards up for grabs, (171'ish volunteers were nominated for an award, these were then judged
by an independent panel and the winners selected.) and some very deserving people where rewarded.
As well as the obligatory raffle there is a "Name the Bears" competition.
Am I the only one who can hear the theme tune from Jaws as Angela cruises the marquee looking for her next victim... sorry customer?
I think they were called Neil and Rosemary (the Bears that is).
David Blythe, Arthritis Care North England, kicks-off the proceedings with a few words.
The first award catagory is: Spreading the Word (Information);
The Winner is: John Trenwith - Winsford branch. Runner Up - Dan Craig - Gateshead branch.
The award for: Branch & Group Support goes to;
Winner Denise Jenkins - Yorkshire Young Persons & Families Group. Runner Up Rita Cosgrove - Cleveland South branch.

The award for: Helping People to Help Themselves goes to;
Winner Barbara Jones - Lancashire CA Volunteer. Runner Up Ena Broadley - Hull branch.
The award for: Growing Our Numbers goes to;
Winner Allison Williams - Gateshead branch. Runner Up Elaine Jewain - Wrightington branch.
The award for: Arthritis Care Champion of the Year - Health Professional goes to;
Winner Sister Jacqui Binding - Gateshead branch. Runner Up Suzanne Carney - Physiotherapist - Lancashire.

The award for: Politician goes to;
Winner Graham Brady - Altrincham branch.
The award for: Campaigning goes to;
Winner - Tracey Muschamp - Scarborough. Runner Up - Kathryn Thorpe (TBC).
The Judges were:
Heather Stevens - Regional Manager Age Concern.
David Payne PCT Trainer/Tutor.
Rob Walker - Works with many voluntary groups also Chair of MS Society.

Its time for some "inside information!" on which horse to back.
There is a "hot tip" for each race on which horse to back.
... then I said "Well that's not what he said"... Have YOU heard the latest rumor about that Mrs T..... The A team.
Having your cake and eating someone else's.
And so its time for the main event: [2:40pm or 14:40 hours]
The Arthritis Care North England Diamond Jubilee Maiden Stakes. The title is longer than the race.
(That's Ron ordering his lager.)
Their off! Blink and you'll miss it. But you will feel it, as the horses thunder past the ground shakes.
And the winner is: No. 10 Crystany at 3 to 1
In second place is : No. 11 Hawk Eyed Lady at 33 to 1
In third place is: No. 2 First Trim at 10 to 3
Next is the balloon race, so its all outside to see the launch.
Remember that song: "99 Red Balloons"?
Well Eastern Europe has just gone to DEFCON 10 and is about to launch a counter strike!
Would you believe it! Nowt but clear blue skies and bright sunshine all day! Till now!
All too soon its time to go home, if you look carefully you can see the driver!
